In a gritty and alternate 1985 the glory days of costumed vigilantes have been brought to a close by a government crackdown, but after one of the masked veterans is brutally murdered an investigation into the killer is initiated. The reunited heroes set out to prevent their own destruction, but in doing so discover a deeper and far more diabolical plot. (source: IMDb)

Film version based on the classic 1986 graphic DC novels by the same name created by Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons and John Higgins. One of the six central characters in the novels and the film is captain of industry Adrian Veidt, better known as former masked crimefighter Ozymandias. He draws inspiration from his hero Alexander the Great and Egyptian pharaoh Ramesses II (also known as 'Ramesses The Great'), part of whose throne name was transcribed in Greek by Diodorus Siculus as 'Ozymandias' --a name best known from the classic sonnet by Percy Bysshe Shelley. Veidt has a self-engineered mutant pet lynx named Bubastis, after the name of capital of the Egyptian 22nd Dynasty, which was in turn named after the lion-faced goddess Bast or Bastet.
