Explorer Sir Malcolm Murray, American gunslinger Ethan Chandler, mysterious Vanessa Ives and Dr. Frankenstein unite to combat supernatural threats in Victorian London. Searching for the abducted daughter of Sir Malcolm, they encounter being whose dead body is covered by Egyptian spells. Among the spells is an image of the god Amun-Ra in front of the goddess Amunet. As Egyptologist Sir Ferdinand Lyle explains, if Amun-Ra and Amunet ever came together, Amunet would become the mother of all evil, all light would end and the world would live in darkness. As it gradually appears Vanessa Ives is possesed by an unknown entity and is hunted by a devil, it may well be it is Amun-Ra who is afer her to claim the Amunet inside her.

British-American horror TV series that draws upon many characters from 19th-century Irish and British fiction, and that era's interest in spiritualism and the occult. Whereas the series' first season hints to several Egyptian elements forming a creepy background to the storyline, the second season had no mention of it whatsoever.
