UK, 2011  TV

TV-series Doctor Who

Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, Alex Kingston
Directed by Jeremy Webb

The day Doctor Who dies at Lake Silencio in Utah, apparently initiated by The Silence, something has gone wrong with history. Various historical eras have collided into one another and all sorts of figures from history make their way through modern London. In a bid to solve the situation, Amy Pond takes the Doctor to Egypt, to ‘Area 52’: the Great Pyramid of Giza. There, his friends Amy, Rory and River Song have captured and imprisoned hundreds of The Silence as they try to discover what has gone wrong with time. However, the Silence manage to break out of their prisons. The Doctor and River flee to the top of the pyramid, where she put up a distress beacon to ask the whole universe to help save the Doctor from death. Realizing his death is inevitable, the Doctor tries to gain River Song's trust by agreeing to an impromptu marriage ceremony on top of the pyramid. As they kiss, history reverts to its original state and the Doctor dies on the shores of Lake Silencio as it was supposed to be.

Thirteenth and final episode of the sixth (new) series of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who. This sixth series continues the story from series five, investigating the mysterious Silence that caused the TARDIS to explode in the episodes "The Pandorica Opens" and "The Big Bang", both featured elsewhere in this list for other Egyptian (Cleopatra) content.
