In 1912 Paris a professor experimenting with bringing ancient beings back to life through sheer mental force unwittingly hatches a prehistoric egg in the nearby museum, thus liberating a 136 million year old pterodactyl. When the pterodactyl kills three people and is found to be hiding in the professor's home, the professor is jailed and sentenced to death. However, it is he who adventurous journalist Adèle Blanc-Sec desperately needs to help revive the mummy of an ancient Egyptian doctor that she retrieved on an expedition in Egypt. She hopes this doctor will be able to use ancient Egyptian magic to revive her sister who died following a freak accident that Adèle was responsible for.

Based on Jacques Tardi's 1976 classic comic book series "Les Aventures Extraordinaires d'Adele Blanc-Sec" about the adventures of a fetching popular novelist who turns to investigative journalism as her research and subsequent adventures reveal the details of the mystical world of crime.
